Door FAQs

How should I look after my door once it has been installed?

For the door, wash down with warm soapy and for the frame, use a PVCU cream cleaner. Lubricate locks with white lithium grease.

Can we have a security chain and/or a keyless entry system (Yale) fitted to the door?

Yes. Both door chains and Yale keyless entry systems can be fitted.

Do you offer repairs for existing doors in Norfolk & Suffolk that weren’t installed by GWS Doors?

Yes. We can make repairs and/or adjustments to existing doors.

If I buy my own door, will you fit it for me?

Yes. We can fit your door for you although we recommend you call to arrange a chargeable survey.

Do you offer a supply-only service for domestic and commercial properties in Norfolk & Suffolk?

Yes.

I have a window attached to my door, can you replace that at the same time?

Yes. It can be changed at the same time which gives the opportunity to upgrade to safety glass if required. If a window is within 300 of a door any replacement must meet building regulations (correct glass in the correct place).

Can you change a window into a doorway?

We are permitted, under regulations, to remove the brickwork from below a window and change it to a door and vice versa brick up a door to form a window. If the opening is to be made wider, it will involve a lintle which would require building control inspection.

Can you do anything about the height of the step/threshold in my existing door?

The regulations say the same as or better so we always aim to keep thresholds as low as possible to reduce trip hazards.

Do you do other glass designs aside from the ones in the brochures?

Yes. There are many designs available and we can even get your own design made.

Do you fit sliding patio doors in Norfolk & Suffolk?

Yes as fittings are reasonably universal. You can find our brochure here.

Can I change the colour/letterbox/handles of my door at a later date?

Yes.

Can we have the inside of the door the same colour as the outside?

Yes. Both sides of the door and frame can be any colour you desire.

Is there any mastic visible after completion?

We strive to leave no mastic showing by covering with trim wherever possible, but sometimes a little may be visible in the cill area.

Whatever it is, we’re at the other end of the phone and email, ready to answer any queries you may have.
